Gorgos Riverbed and Aqueduct in Gata de Gorgos

Highlight • River

Gata de Gorgos owes its name to the river (bed) the Gorgos that runs through the village. This river flows into the Mediterranean Sea at Jávea. The village is located at approximately 75m above sea level and has over 6000 inhabitants who mainly speak Spanish and Valencian.

From the 16th to the 18th century, agriculture was the most important source of income for the village. The most important things that were grown during this time were: wheat, (wine) grapes, cane, olives, barley, almonds and, for example, grapes for raisins. Until the middle of the 20th century, agriculture was the most important financial sector for Gata de Gorgos. Due to the deterioration of the quality of the soil, but especially due to the demand for (second) homes on the coast, the former agricultural land has now been built on in many places by, among other things, urbanisation and tourism has become an important source of income.

Gata de Gorgos has a very charming centre that is definitely worth a visit. Those looking for products made of reed will find what they are looking for here. The place is known for its handmade articles (artesanías) made of reed (hats, baskets and the like). The shops that sell these products have earned Gata de Gorgos its nickname ‘Bazaar of the Costa Blanca’.

Granadella Cove

Highlight • Beach

Perhaps one of the most popular and renowned coves on the Costa Blanca. It is undoubtedly a beauty of a place and deserves a visit at any time of the year, just to clarify that in summer it is usually very crowded and it will be difficult to find a parking space.

A top location worth a visit. It offers fantastic views of the coast and the cliffs along the coastline. The road there is easy to navigate. The cape separates the bays of Alicante and Valencia and is surrounded by hidden coves and small islands. A striking landmark is the white lighthouse from 1928, which stands 120 meters above the sea and shines its light up to 23 nautical miles away. A visit is worthwhile not only for the impressive landscape, but also for the picturesque viewpoints that offer unforgettable panoramic views of the deep blue Mediterranean.

Another of the panoramic points with the best views of Jávea and the Marina Alta Coast. I recommend getting there on a clear day with good visibility, so you can enjoy the stunning views and unique landscape!

Ascent to Montgó from Dénia

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

The road connects the cities of Denia and Jávea. It is a very beautiful climb with views of the sea and the mountains. The highest peak on the road is in the La Plana area. Here, there is a car park from where trails lead up to the top of the mountain.

The pavement of the road is in perfect condition. There is hardly any shoulder on the road and you have to be careful with the traffic, especially in the busiest months of the year.
