This route is classified as difficult, requiring very good physical condition and advanced mountain biking technique. You should be prepared for significant ascents and descents, including the challenging climb of the Comptador Pass and the Port de Tudons. Some sections may even require you to push your bike.
The trail features a varied and demanding mix of terrain. You'll encounter 4.13 km of singletrack, 17.9 km of loose ground, 9.10 km of natural surfaces, 6.97 km of asphalt, and 2.72 km of gravel. There are also sections of secondary roads. Expect both paved and dirt paths, with technical sections like the 'Passet de la Rabosa' involving rock chaos and narrow passages.
You'll be treated to beautiful views throughout the ride. Notable highlights include the Port de Tudons, the challenging Comptador Pass, and natural monuments like Els Romputs (Serra d'Aitana). For stunning vistas, look out for Els Penyonets, El Pí, and Ombría del Bosquet. You'll also see spectacular views of the Morro del Salt and various valleys.
While there are no explicit restrictions against dogs, this is a very difficult mountain biking route with technical terrain and significant climbs. It's generally not recommended for dogs, especially given the length and demanding nature of the trail. If you do bring a dog, ensure they are in excellent physical condition and always keep them on a leash.
The best time to ride this trail is typically during the spring and autumn months when temperatures are milder. Summer can be very hot, making the strenuous climbs even more challenging. Winter can bring colder temperatures and potentially snow at higher elevations, especially around the Port de Tudons and Comptador Pass.
Yes, there are a couple of natural water sources where you can replenish your supply. You can find water at the 'fonteta de Giner' and the 'Font de Partagat', which is notably the highest spring in Alicante province at nearly 1400 meters.
No, there are no special permits or entrance fees required to access and ride the Vuelta a la Sierra de Aitana — Circular por Tudons y el Pas del Comptador route.
Specific parking information for this exact starting point isn't detailed, but as a circular route traversing the Sierra de Aitana, you can typically find parking in one of the nearby towns or at the base of major passes like the Port de Tudons. It's advisable to check local regulations for parking availability in the area where you plan to begin your ride.
Yes, the route incorporates sections of several official trails. You will ride along parts of the Port de Tudons - Benifato, Port de Tudons - Cim d'Aitana, PR-CV9, and Camí d'Aitana trails, among others.
Given the difficult nature and length of this tour, you should bring plenty of water (especially since water sources are limited), energy snacks, a repair kit for your bike, appropriate clothing for varied weather conditions, and a first-aid kit. A GPS device with the route loaded is also highly recommended due to the complex terrain.
While the trail itself is remote, passing through mountainous terrain, you would typically find cafes and other amenities in the towns surrounding the Sierra de Aitana, such as those in the Guadalest Valley or near the base of the Port de Tudons. Plan to stock up before your ride or visit these towns post-ride.
🏞 Another tour in La Marina Baja in Alicante, just to reassure my charm for this amazing area that offers infinite places to visit combining mountains with incredible views and of course the Costa Blanca beaches 🏖 📝 I've been around before and the Serra d'Aitana triggered my curiosity since the very first time so I've planned a tour to climb to the top and circle it around, I've heard the views were amazing and I can say now they truly are!! ⛰ Not an easy climb especially during a hot sunny day, however the views rewarded every single sweat drop (and trust me I sweated a lot 😅!). I tried to stay off the road as much as possible so I took an alternative path to climb to the Port de Tudons. I recommend it for mtb due to some trail sections along the climb, however if you have your gravel bike and don't mind a bit of hike-a-bike, it's definitely worth and then you can go down via the paved road. 🚵♂️ Several viewpoints along the tour with incredible views, many fountains with cold and fresh water and some very well maintained gravel roads wich complement perfectly the tour during this time of the year. 🤩 Just my personal opinion now...I recommend you visit not only La Marina Baja but also La Marina Alta in Alicante province, it has so much to offer, with outdoors activities and alternatives all over that it makes a great place all-year-round 😉
