San Juan de Torán

Highlight • Settlement

San Juan de Torán is part of the municipality of Caneján and is literally one of those towns that have "two streets". In 2019 it had 3 inhabitants.

It is located very close to the border with France and next to the Torán River, a tributary of the Garonne. The constructions of this place are very peculiar and deserve a visit, as well as the 12th century church. Throughout the town there are impressive views of the Aran Valley.

Haro of Les

Highlight • Monument

The Haro de Les festival has a pagan origin. On the summer solstice, a fir trunk about 12 meters high was burned to thank the gods for the success of the crops. Currently, it is a folklore festival declared intangible heritage of humanity by UNESCO and is celebrated with typical Aranese dances on June 24, Saint John's Day.

Trail Reviews

Javier G.
August 28, 2024, Aran'24 2: De Les a Eth Cau de Naut y ruta de les aigües

A really cool route through the idyllic forest landscape. Be careful: The climb to Eth Cau de Nauth is very technical in the final part, the last 1,500m from km 10.7 (Cabana del Portert). Although the views from that point at 1,820m are magnificent, Komoot marks a return path that does not exist or we were unable to find it. We then return to km 8.6 where we take the R3 track, a quiet path with spectacular landscapes. From that point to the end of the route, a 10.
