Window to the Atlantic

Highlight • Monument

It is the work of Francisco Pazos and is called “Fiestra Aberta ó Mar” (open window to the sea), commonly known as Window to the Atlantic.

It is a composition of stone pieces that form a window with open counters eroded by the action of wind and water and that could not have better views; the ocean. Its twelve granite stones joined with resins and stainless steel form a sculpture that is 4.5 meters high and 2.5 meters wide.

In front are the so-called Tres Illas formed by A Illa do Vandabal, A Illa do Pé and A Illa do Aguión.

Trail Reviews

Today was the last stop of the cruise in A Coruña. It was a bit chilly and windy, but we still had a nice tour around the city.

Beautiful bike ride along the coast up to Monte San Pedro. Then back through town. One of the highlights is the oldest active lighthouse in the world, the Torre de Hèrcules.

Hello Komootler, the Torre de Hércules is the oldest usable lighthouse in the world. The associated city of A Coruña is a highlight in Galicia. We were lucky with the parking space, so we hiked to Hercules first. The crowd was so strong for one group that we decided not to climb. The view on the hill is so beautiful too. There are also some interesting sculptures scattered around the area. Back at the motorhome we activated the tandem to explore the coast and old town. The weather held up well, so we were even able to sit outside in the old town.
