Cavallazza Peak

Highlight • Summit

Cima Cavallazza (2,324 m a.s.l.) is a peak of the Lagorai chain (southern Dolomites of Fiemme) located in the Paneveggio - Pale di San Martino Natural Park. The Cavallazza knot was one of the Austro-Hungarian strongholds placed in defense of Val Travignolo: there was an articulated system of trenches, walkways and rock posts. With its position leaning towards the Rolle pass, the Cavallazza - Tognazza mountain group made it possible to keep the entire Primiero valley under control. Both on the top and on the forecasts, there are still caves (stoli) dug by the Alpini to defend themselves from the Austrian artillery positioned at Fort Dossaccio.
