Copehill Down Training Village

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Past Copehill Down village, built in the 1980s for urban warfare training. Lots of men with guns either side of the trail and the steady chatter of small arms fire last time I went through. Weird to cycle right through an active military exercise but they didn't seem to mind.

The land south of the village of Erlestoke was used as a location in the 2018 film '1917' set during the second world war. During filming, deep trenches were dug into to the landscape to replicate WW1 scenes.

Cheverell Hill Farm, passed on the bridleway between Great Cherverill and the Imber Range Perimiter Path, was once a working farm but is now used by the military.

December 28, 2023, Imber trail from Warminster

Really muddy, wet and windy but such a good laugh. We didnt manage to complete and only got to the white horse car park due to batterys flat & got picked up

Ride following the perimeter of the Imber firing range danger area that is part of Salisbury Plain. Mixed terrain, roads, military tracks, gravel paths, woodland, open fields. Word of warning, there is no crossing the danger area so from the half way point you are committed to completing the full distance.
