This route was planned by komoot.
This one could be classed as quite local to me really as it's just in the Yorkshire Dales. I was tasked with creating a localish hike so I came up with this. Starting at Bolton Abbey, which we explored after the hike) and looping around Simon's Seat through the Valley of Desolation. I hadn't done this particular route yet before. But I have been in the area before trying to find the Posforth Gill Falls. With no luck last time though. We chose to pay for the parking here for the whole day and start at the lower carpark. There is a café and some facilities. The walk initially leads you through some woodlands, while following the river. One of my favorite parts form this hike was stumbling across the brownie barn! I had been to it before but I had no idea that it was near this route. So we just had to stop for some brownies and a cup of tea. How could you not really. After the brownie Barn we reached Simons Seat and due to it being super windy we headed straight over to find the waterfall. To be honest we did nearly miss that path leading up to it, however we did manage to check the map in time to realize we have to turn back on ourselves, if we want to see it. It was a wonderful day spent in the Yorkshire Dales, walking probably one of the more popular routes.
A walk across the moors to Simon's Seat a dowm through woods. Finally along the the well surfaced riverside path.
This is a fantastic walk with every different terrain from the river to waterfalls woods hills and a trig point on some rocks that you have to do a little bit of climbing to get to it, nothing to worrying. Then there are so many routes back that you can do as many miles as you like. The views are spectacular and you have the Abbey ruins to see aswell.
