Tunnels of the Coastal Greenway (Via Verde de la Costa), Rincón de la Victoria

Highlight • Cycleway

Via Verde along the coast, a great thing! The route also goes through impressive tunnels blasted into the rock. The tunnels are located just before the town of Rincón de la Victoria and were originally built for a train that traveled from Málaga to Vélez. Both a passenger and a freight train ran along the railway line. The train was known as La Cochinita (little pig) because it ran over a herd of pigs on its first journey. If you look at the picture of the train that was painted on the rock face, you will find this name there. The train stopped operating in 1960.

For those who usually only drive over bridges, these tunnel passages are a real experience. Between the tunnels there are wonderful views of the coast and there is a lot to discover. Very well implemented, easy to ride cycle path on a great route, a real highlight and a great experience.

Torre del Mar Lighthouse

Highlight • Monument

The original lighthouse was built in 1864, but due to coastal erosion and other problems, it was rebuilt and relocated several times. The current lighthouse was finally built in its current position in 1976 after several moves.

The Torre del Mar lighthouse is not only a functional part of coastal navigation, but also a popular destination for a tour, especially at sunset. The lighthouse is a fine example of the combination of modern technology with the traditions of seafaring along the Spanish coast.

Cueva del Tesoro

Highlight • Cave

The Cueva del Tesoro "Treasure Cave" is one of the most important caves in Spain and the only known sea cave in Europe that can be visited. It is located east of Málaga in Rincón de la Victoria. The cave was formed by the sea, creating impressive underground galleries, tunnels and cave rooms. It impresses with its stalactites, stalagmites and mysterious underground lakes. The name "Treasure Cave" comes from legends about hidden riches of Arab rulers, in particular a fabulous treasure from the time of the Caliphate of Córdoba.

The Cueva del Tesoro is a fascinating mix of natural wonder, history and myth. It offers not only spectacular rock formations, but also a mysterious atmosphere surrounded by its legends. Open daily, times vary depending on the season.
