Markie Burn Waterfalls

Highlight • Viewpoint

It's worth getting off your bike to visit these picturesque waterfalls. The Markie Burn is surrounded by deciduous woodland straight from the pages of a fairytale. As you wonder through the Rosemarkie glen, look out for fulmars and jackdaws who like to nest here, especially in spring.

The burn is made up of deep pools, rapids and waterfalls. There's a path running along beside it, but it's not suitable for bikes.

Chanonry Lighthouse has guided boats since 1846 and is still in operation today. It's located on the Black Isle where the Moray Firth narrows between Chanonry Point and Fort George. At the time, the lighthouse cost £3,570 to construct. The lights range is visible for 15 nautical miles (24 km).
