Pewsey White Horse

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Pewsey White Horse is both fairly young and quite small – the smallest in Wiltshire. It was cut into the chalk hillside in 1937 although it replaced a much older horse, possibly originating in the 18th century.

The horse lies at one end of the Vale of Pewsey, and looks across the valley toward the Alton Barnes White Horse, which lies on Milk Hill to the north west.

St James' Church, North Newnton

Highlight • Historical Site

This secluded church was built in the 13th century but it stands on the site of a considerably older church, built around the 10th century. The tower is 15th-century, and houses four bells.

It sits on the banks of a young River Avon, north of the village of Upavon with little nearby by farms. Both the Pewsey Avon Trail and the White Horse Trail long-distance footpaths pass directly by.
