This route was planned by komoot.
The loop often starts from Graun im Vinschgau, famous for its submerged church tower. You'll find parking options available there, making it a convenient starting point for your ride.
This loop offers a diverse terrain, including gravel roads, forest paths, and demanding single trails. Expect sections rated S1 with small obstacles like roots and stones, and even S2 in places, requiring more advanced riding technique. Some parts may even require pushing your bike.
You'll encounter stunning high alpine scenery, including views of the Reschensee and the majestic Ortler mountain range. The route also passes by the beautiful Pedross See and historical Vallo Alpino barracks. Don't miss the Berghütte Maseben and the thrilling Maseben Alm Enduro Trail with Panoramic Mountain Views.
No, this loop is generally considered difficult and requires a good level of fitness and technical skill. The single trail sections, particularly the Langtauferer Höhenweg, are rated S1 to S2, which means they are not ideal for beginners.
The best time to ride this high alpine loop is typically during the warmer months, from late spring through early autumn, when the trails are clear of snow and weather conditions are more stable. Always check local weather forecasts before you go.
While specific regulations for dogs on this exact trail are not detailed, generally in this region, dogs are allowed on trails but should be kept on a leash, especially in alpine pastures or near wildlife. Always practice responsible pet ownership.
There are no specific permits or entrance fees mentioned for mountain biking the Langtauferer Tal Loop itself. However, always be mindful of local regulations and private property.
Yes, the route primarily follows the Langtauferer Tal trail for a significant portion. You'll also find sections that overlap with the Hüttenweg, Pratzner Ebenen, and Ochsenberg trails.
Yes, you'll pass by the Berghütte Maseben, which offers a great opportunity for a break and refreshments during your ride.
The Langtauferer Höhenweg is a highlight of this loop. Originally a military fortification line, it has been transformed into a 'dream trail' for mountain bikers. It's recognized as one of the longest combined trail descents in the tri-border region around the Reschensee, offering thrilling riding and impressive mountain views.
While the route can be ridden in either direction, many riders prefer to tackle the significant ascents on gravel roads first, allowing for a more rewarding descent on the single trails, particularly the Langtauferer Höhenweg. Consider starting from Graun im Vinschgau and heading into the valley.
Short sliding distance upwards.... everything else mobile...
The ascent, which is very steep at the beginning, is usually the last thing down. However, we decided to start the tour like this because it is completely in the shade as we enter the valley in October, which really got us going. A little further, almost as expected, woodwork blocked our way again. Luckily today was Sunday and so we sneaked past under the piled up wood and truck. 😏 As expected, the Melager Alm had already ended its season and we didn't care. So we cycled very relaxed our small, fine round on the sunny side at the hamlet of Melag back out of the valley.🙂
