Running

From Lutzelhouse station, you will see in front of you the program that awaits you with the Rocher de Mutzig and the Fairy Garden. The first part of the course, of nine kilometers, leads directly to the rock, with an ascent in stages that are increasingly difficult.

It is therefore best to start gently on the first asphalt section. Then the earth makes its appearance with wide passable roads on two thirds of the ascent. So you can put the poles away and practice running uphill. A few single tracks, mostly downhill, intersperse the effort to relax the legs. This will not displease you given the last two kilometers that await you: a drop of up to 20/25% and above all a technical terrain that may require you to walk.

Arrived at the Rocher de Mutzig, climb it to admire the landscape over the valley, with the Rhine plain and the Black Forest on your left. Then begins the descent, neither too steep nor too technical, a real treat with the adrenaline accumulated on the way up. You will pass by the Stone Gate, a pretty geological curiosity in pink sandstone. In the middle of the way back, take a detour to your right to discover the Fairy Garden, another emblematic place due to its rock formations. For this, a short steep climb will exhaust your last strength.

All that remains is to go back down to Lutzelhouse by very varied paths, which can be very technical or extremely rolling. To finish, you will cross a giant sequoia, two remarkable oaks and finally the church of the town, the sign that your road is over.

Rocher de Mutzig Viewpoint

Highlight • Viewpoint

The climb is worth it! Depending on which route you take, you can make the climb to 1010m above sea level a little more sporty or comfortable. Even less well-conditioned hikers can enjoy this wonderful place.
From the highest point in the Northern Vosges there is an amazing view. But it's not just the beautiful view to the south that invites you to linger. Sufficient space and opportunities to make yourself comfortable make the Rocher de Mutig the ideal place for a longer break. But please remember to take the traces of the lunch snack with you. There are no trash cans available up there.

Have fun!

Descent from the Porte de Pierre

Highlight (Segment) • Other

The Stone Gate, a curious natural monument of pink sandstone, could perfectly be called the stone arch. Pass below and off you go for a crazy descent, my favorite in the Bruche valley. A clever mix of technicality and more rolling portions to be able to pick up speed.

Fairy Garden

Highlight • Viewpoint

In the fairy garden there are several menhirs.
There are remains of a 3000 year old ring wall and astronomical markings.
The rocks offer a nice seating and views of the Vosges.
