"You should buy a lottery ticket!” the bike mechanic at O’Sullivan’s Cycles in Killarney told me, holding a derailleur hanger in his hands. “This is the last one we have in stock!” he added. Incredible luck – to find the right replacement for the broken part in such a small town.
The mechanic quickly replaced the hanger and chain, and adjusted the drivetrain. He also assured us that the crack in Denys’s bike frame is not critical and does not require immediate repair.
The trip was saved!
According to our plan for the day, we had some radial rides – exploring Killarney National Park: Ross Castle and Muckross House, the old cemetery with Celtic crosses at Muckross Abbey, and the Muckross Lakes. Beautiful places – no wonder they’re on the UNESCO list!
