The St. Nicholas' Church in Wismar is not only a landmark of Brick Gothic architecture but also an impressive testament to Hanseatic history. As the church of sailors and fishermen (hence the dedication to St. Nicholas), it is deeply rooted in the city's maritime tradition. With a vault height of 37 meters, St. Nicholas' boasts the fourth-highest church nave in Germany (after Ulm Minster, Cologne Cathedral, and St. Mary's Church, Lübeck).

From the former fortress in Kirchdorf, there is a beautiful view over the harbor and the tranquil bay of the island of Poel. Between green remnants of the ramparts and old trees, the view opens up to the anchored sailboats, the small fishing cutters, and the red tile roofs of the village.

The port of Timmendorf is located on the west coast of the island of Poel and belongs to the municipality of Ostseebad Insel Poel. Situated directly on Wismar Bay, it serves fishing, water sports, and tourism. The port consists of several jetties for recreational and fishing boats. Besides local fishermen who land their catch here, the port is primarily used by sailboats and motorboats during the summer months. Berths with electricity and water hookups, as well as sanitary facilities, are available for visitors. Immediately adjacent to the port are restaurants offering fish dishes and regional cuisine. Parking is also available, along with a small beach area that is particularly popular with swimmers.

The Hoben heritage conservation area is an important cultural asset of the region. It encompasses historically significant buildings, streetscapes, and green spaces that have shaped the appearance of the town for centuries. Typical of the area are preserved half-timbered houses, gabled and timber-framed structures, and closely spaced farmyards, which highlight the interplay of architecture and rural use. Heritage protection safeguards the existing buildings and design principles, protects the exterior appearance, and ensures the preservation of historical materials, techniques, and ornamental details. Targeted restoration measures, background lighting, and information panels raise awareness of local history. Today, the area serves both preservation and use: It provides space for cultural events, educational opportunities, and tourist exploration without compromising its historical character.

The cycle path separates from the coast here and continues above (at least as seen from the direction of Boltenhagen). A small bench invites you to take a break.
