I had already been to the Scarfiotti Refuge about ten years ago. It was nice to go back. It is in a beautiful valley surrounded by waterfalls and lakes and of course mountains. The new management is made up of young guys, very kind and welcoming. Excellent general cleaning. We stayed overnight in the shared dormitory - we requested a sheet bag - but being a Friday night it was just us. Abundant breakfast as well as a very abundant dinner, which was welcome because we had arrived by pedaling. Ideal place for an overnight stay and for the subsequent departure towards Sommeiller, but also as a stop for a lunch. Excellent and recommended.

Nestled in the heart of the mountain pastures bordering the Vanoise National Park, the bucolic refuge of Plan Sec is a first choice stop. Overlooking the Aussois valley and the lakes that sleep there, the view testifies to a rare grandeur. An essential point for travelers on the GR 5 or crossing the Alps, the refuge also makes an excellent base camp for day visits to the surrounding dams, the Col d'Aussois, the Pointe de l'Observatoire, the Rateau d'Aussois or the Lac du Génépy. In season, the refuge fills up quickly. Remember to book if you want to spend the night there. For a fee, it is possible to pitch your tent next to the refuge or to use the shower.

The Thabor refuge is a pretty little refuge built in the heart of the eponymous massif. It makes an excellent base camp for the ascent of Mount Thabor which peaks at 3,178 meters above sea level. It is also appreciated by travelers who tread the paths of the GR 5. From its doors, access to the Sainte-Marguerite lakes and its beautiful alpine meadows invites you to an easy walk.
