TRAGEDY OF SAINT-EUSTACHE On 31 December 1943, Saint-Eustache fell victim to the blind, arbitrary and barbaric violence of the German occupiers, in retaliation for a clash that had taken place a few days earlier between resistance fighters and a German soldier. After the hamlets were surrounded, 28 hostages were arrested. 24 men would be deported to Nazi camps, and 17 would not return.

Surrounded by many mountains, Lake Annecy can be observed from many places. The ridge that descends from the Montagne d'Entrevernes towards the Pas de la Cheville is one of its choice locations.
