St Thomas’s Church is, alongside the famous Salisbury Cathedral, one of Salisbury’s most significant historical buildings. Particularly noteworthy is the medieval “Doom Painting” (representation of the Last Judgment) above the chancel arch. It is among the best-preserved examples of its kind in Great Britain and was made visible again in its original colours in 2019 after a comprehensive restoration. The richly carved roof structures with numerous angel figures, as well as the connection to Salisbury’s trading history, also make the church worth seeing.

"St Thomas’s belongs to the Church of England and is also part of the Inclusive Church initiative, which means that we are committed to ensure that all are truly welcome, whatever their story. ... Our beautiful building is the latest one on this site which has been used for worship for nearly eight hundred years. Most of the building seen today dates from the 15th century, and the church houses many treasures from across the centuries. St Thomas's has always been the church of the City, and the painted badges of the Guilds are still visible in the medieval wall paintings of the Lady Chapel." "The story of this great Cathedral is a tale of defiance and ingenuity that begins back in 1218, when the Bishop of Salisbury abandoned the original cathedral at Old Sarum, and moved down to the banks of the Avon, where the Cathedral stands today. You can learn the reasons for this move and about the people who made it happen by following the new family-friendly trail inside the Cathedral." The Moot boasts the remains of an 11th-century motte and bailey castle, the earthworks of which can still be explored today. The impressive Moot House was built in the 17th century and was host to an earthen amphitheatre where many plays, particularly Shakespeare's, were performed. It all makes for an interesting detour when running along the Avon Valley Path.

Despite the seemingly unpromising name, "Nomansland" is a fine village along the boundaries of the Hampshire and Wiltshire county borders. Nowadays this runs along this road in front of the Lamb Inn. Local legend has it that the border formerly ran through the pub itself and as closing time was earlier in Hampshire, there was a quick move into the Wiltshire bar to get extra drinking time at the end of the evening! New Forest ponies also visit for refreshment and can be found grazing on the green alongside the road.
