The Springvale Recreation Area is a pretty, public park with swimming access to the Mousam River. There is a large covered picnic area, a playground, and a small sandy beach by the water. This is a great place to take kids during the summer to play and swim in the river.

This scenic spot along the Mousam River is a popular swimming location in the summer months. After following the Mousam Way - North Trail, which is rooted and rocky footpath marked by blue blazes through the woods, this is a great spot to pause, catch your breath and cool off in the water.

The 625 acre Alewive Woods Preserve is the "crown jewel" of the Kennebunk Land Trust. With a central 45-acre pond, the Alewive Woods Preserve offers diverse recreational opportunities on 2.5 miles of trails through forested terrain. The preserve also serves as habitat for wildlife and is a prime spot for blueberry picking in the summer and wildflower viewing in the spring. The small trailhead has an informative on-site kiosk and a parking lot. Be aware, however, that this lot can fill up quickly, but parking along Cole Road is allowed and a good alternative.

After passing near some backyards, you'll get to a quiet pathway through the woods. At this point you'll enjoy the view of Hay Brook and Mousam river.
