Yes, the area offers several great options for families. Shark River Park is a popular choice, featuring a playground and relatively flat, easy-to-navigate trails. For a different experience, Allaire State Park has gentle paths and the added attraction of a historic village and steam train, which is a favorite with children.

Can I bring my dog on the hiking trails?

Many parks in Monmouth County are pet-friendly, but policies can vary. Hartshorne Woods Park and Allaire State Park generally welcome leashed dogs on their trails. For off-leash fun, the Asbury Park Dog Beach is a great option after your hike. Always check the specific park's regulations before you go.

Are there any challenging or hilly hikes in the area?

While many local trails are flat, Hartshorne Woods Park is the premier destination for a more challenging hike. It's known for its hilly terrain and extensive trail system, offering some of the highest elevations along the Atlantic Coast. The trails there include steep grades and provide a rewarding workout with scenic overlooks.

What are some good circular walks that start and end in the same place?

Most trails in the nearby parks are designed as loops. For a pleasant walk combining coastal and town scenery, consider the Wesley Lake loop from Asbury Park. It's an easy route that takes you around the lake and through the surrounding neighborhoods.
