Totally fine on a road bike. Traveling westbound, the first stretch of the path is straight and fast, and the back half wi as it's way through sparse woods. Very nice respite from car traffic.

Wesley Lake is just a few hundred yards from the shores of the ocean and backs up to Founder's Park. There are a number of paved paths circling around the water, and there's even a bridge crossing over the middle of the lake that you can walk across.
