Tips from the Community

Peter S
September 4, 2025, Museum Ship Gil Eannes

The former hospital ship of the cod fleet is now a museum ship. The entrance fee of €5 per person is absolutely reasonable. For that, you get to see a lot of interesting things. The tour provides a very thorough explanation of life and technology on board. An audio guide is available as a helpful supplement. Much of the interior is still preserved. Absolutely worth seeing.

The former hospital ship is now a museum. The entrance fee (5 euros per person, September 2025) is well worth it. For that, you can walk through the entire ship and get a good impression of the conditions and technology of the time.

Bridge over the Lima

From the bridge, you have a good view of the Lima River and the city of Viana. However, the pedestrian lane (only the one downstream is open) is very narrow and not really designed for two-way traffic. In Eiffel's time, the entire upper bridge was probably intended for pedestrians and oxcarts. The railway runs one level below: https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ponte_Eiffel

The Bridge over the Lima River in Ponte de Lima is an authentic work of art that combines medieval and Roman styles and is classified as a national monument. The bridge has two distinct sections, one Roman and one medieval.
