Czocha Castle

Highlight • Castle

The castle was privately owned in the first half of the 20th century, in 1945 it fell to the Polish state and is now a hotel and apparently also used for weddings, as we saw today.
Adultery seems to have been a serious topic at the castle. At least one woman (Ulrike) was drowned for adultery in the castle well and a trap for adulterers is installed in a bed. There are also plenty of secret passages that you can do on the tour.
The entrance costs just over five euros, tours are only in Polish, but to start the tours you get German info sheets

Impressive dam wall, which by Dt. Engineers 1901-1905 was built. German technology from Siemens-Schuckert is still in the machine house. The wall blends in well with the landscape. The upper parking lot at the lake is chargeable. There was delicious, freshly smoked mackerel (St = 20 Zl). The lower parking lot, directly on the street with access to the dam, is free of charge. But here you have to walk about 1km. and you pass the engine house, but you have to use one of the two stairs on the side of the dam to get to the dam.

Świecie Castle ruins, unfortunately closed and no information. Inside you can see that a renovation has started. Everything is locked, secured with barbed wire. Maybe something will change in the future. Otherwise a very interesting castle.

The Złotnicka Dam is an impressive structure situated on picturesque Lake Złotnickie, a beautiful spot on the Kwisa River. Its architecture was designed by the talented construction consultant Curt Bachmann from Jelenia Góra, who combined functionality with aesthetics in his work. This majestic dam not only regulates water flow but also enhances the landscape, creating an unforgettable atmosphere of harmony with nature.

The castle was probably built in the 13th or 14th century on the initiative of the Silesian Piasts. Rajsko was certainly intended to be a counterweight to the neighbouring Lusatian castle of Czocha. Rajsko, known in the past as Neidburg or Neidberg, was inhabited by Jobst von Kolditz. This knight was involved in robberies and attacked merchants' camps, which made him the terror of the entire area. The castle was captured by the Hussites and burned down. Over time, the ruins of the stronghold disappeared into the thicket of bushes and trees. In 1862-1863, the castle was rebuilt without preserving any of the period style, by Baron Aleksander von Minutowi. In the interwar period, it housed a youth hostel. Currently, the castle is in private hands and is being rebuilt, and the pop star Ed Sheeran spent his holiday there a few years ago. The castle can be visited or lived in upon request. Because severe floods devastated the town of Marklissa and the countryside, large dams were built against the Queis/Kwisa (1901/05 and) 1919/24.

A beautiful place. The owners are renovating and rebuilding the castle at their own expense. They have no support from groups responsible for the protection of monuments. It is not surprising that there is a fee for the opportunity to enter and see the ruins, as well as hear stories about the castle, the history of the struggle with reconstruction and plans for what will be available in the castle in the future. But this fee is worth it, because really every złoty is invested in the castle. And the effects of the work of today's castle owners are really visible.

The ruins of Świecie Castle (German Burg Schwerta, 1937–1945: Schwertburg) are located in the village of Świecie (Schwerta), which since 1945 has belonged to the town and country municipality of Leśna (Marklissa) in the Lubański powiat in Poland, about five kilometers to the south from Leśna on a gneiss rock.
