Reduta CZĘSTOCHOWA – Hill 296.6 – Observation bunker

Highlight • Historical Site

The fortified hill 296.6 towering over the north-west part of Częstochowa was one of the key defense points of the "North" section in the "Częstochowa" position, also known as the Częstochowa redoubt. In addition, the hill was also an excellent vantage point for Polish artillery observers, with a view stretching as far as Lgotha and Libidza. The possible conquest of the hill could therefore give the Germans a perfect insight into the center of the Polish grouping and, consequently, the possibility of breaking the first line of defense of the 27th Infantry Regiment.

The position was established by Count Ballestrem in 1904-1906. At that time, he was building a palace in Kochcice, and the bushes planted here were probably to be moved to the palace park.
For unknown reasons, the bushes were left in the place of the nursery. And so they have been preserved to this day, surrounded by a pine forest.
At the turn of May and June, every year in the center of the Lasy nad Górną Liswarta Landscape Park, in the forest between Pawełki and Lubock, you can admire beautifully flowering rhododendrons.
The valuable site is located on the "To the Birch" path.
