In the midst of the beautiful landscape of the Nordeifel, the hiker encounters – for example on the „Wildnistrail“, a four-day tour through the Eifel National Park – between Einruhr and Gemünd this ostentatious building complex. It was not built in the Middle Ages, but only in the last century by the National Socialists and was intended to serve as an „Ordensburg“ for the training of the NS cadre. The exhibition „Bestimmung Herrenmensch“ points to this past nowadays. In addition, there is also the information center „Erlebnis(t)räume“ of the National Park administration.

Schleiden Castle was formerly the castle of the Lords of Schleiden from the House of the Counts of Blankenheim. Its origin is dated to the 12th century. Only the south wing and parts of the east wing remain from the former castle. During a renovation of the complex at the beginning of the 17th century, the courtyard was adorned with a Renaissance portal. In 1920, Schleiden Castle was sold to the Order of the Lazarists. During the Second World War, the old count's residence burned down completely, but was rebuilt and is now privately owned. Source: https://www.eifel.de/go/sehenswertes-detail/schloss_schleiden.html
