The Ellon viaduct was built for the Formartine and Buchan railway, and is now part of the public footpath. You can get a great view from here.

Local park with something for everyone. The Ellon riverside path runs through here, and there are several good paths which can be incorporated into a run.

February 15, 2023, Start of Ellon Parkrun

The Ellon Parkrun is a fun and free 5km event that starts here every Saturday at 9:30. The course is an out and back, it runs to the river and follows it to a small loop of Gordon Park before returning the same way. Parkrun is very inclusive, you can race or jog at your own pace, go for a PB or run along chatting, it's totally up to you and very friendly.

Here is where there is a marker to start the 5KM parkrun route in Ellon. There are markers every KM. Run down to the river and cross the bridge. Follow the path under the bridge and along the riverside to Gordon Park. A loop of Gordon Park is the turning point, and return via the same route.

Tarmac bridge crosses the river Ythan next to the School. A useful shortcut to Gordon park, or useful to make a loop away from traffic using this bridge and the nearby railway viaduct.

The Ellon Viaduct is the old crossing of the Ythan for the Banff and Buchan line that ran from Aberdeen north to Peterhead and Fraserburgh. A good view all along the river and the tarmac surface is accessible for all.

The path along the river Ythan here disappears from the roads and the noise of the town and takes you along the peaceful river. Now fully tarmac, this section is easy to pace. Also, part of the Ellon Parkrun route, passed in both directions.
