Kaltenburg Ruins

Highlight • Castle

The castle dates from the early 12th century and came into the possession of the Counts of Helfenstein in the 14th century. After the castle was severely damaged in the Thirty Years War, it was only partially rebuilt. The ruins fell into disrepair and it was not until the 20th century that efforts were made to preserve the castle's condition. In the 1980s, large parts of the castle ruins were renovated and, above all, the two towers on the valley side were completely repaired.

In 2010 part of the defensive wall on the slope collapsed. The Kaltenburg-Verein organized a repair of the shield wall only with donations. The work was completed in the summer of 2018 and now the castle shines again in all its glory.

Güssenburg

Highlight • Castle

The well-preserved castle ruin was once the ancestral seat of the Lords of Güssenberg, which ruled from the 12th century on large lands in the area. At the end of the 14th century, the Güssenbergs died out and the castle became the property of the Counts of Helfenstein. These used the castle until the middle of the 15th century. In 1449, the castle was destroyed in military conflicts and not rebuilt.

The municipality Heramringen acquired the ruin in 1709, but this fell further. Only in the 1970s, the state of the castle was conserved and repaired piece by piece. The castle ruin is freely accessible and can be visited all year round.

Eselsburg Castle Ruins

Highlight • Castle

Not much is left of the castle. Only a small remnant of the wall, a few mounds of rubble from the dilapidated buildings and the moat remind us that a castle once stood here.
A climb is worth it because of the magnificent view of the valley and the surrounding rocks!

You can visit the ruins, some of which are currently being restored, and you can even go up to the tower for a donation.

Leipheim Castle is a three-story, high-rise, Renaissance-style saddle-roof building, with the ground floor dating back to the 11th century. It is elevated on a steep mountain slope on the western edge of the town of Leipheim in the Günzburg district. The coat of arms of the Lords of Güssen is depicted in the southeastern gable of the castle. The round tower, attached to the south of the castle, has a convexly domed spire. The castle is surrounded by a walled front garden and a stately castle wall with several round towers, each with a concavely domed spire. The grounds, which slope steeply to the north and west, form the castle garden. Source: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schloss_Leipheim Greetings, Marcus
