Bernau Town Wall

Highlight • Monument

It is a landmark of our city, the approximately 1,200 meter long city wall that surrounds the city center of Bernau. With its Lughaus, ditches, gates and towers, it was once a safe protection against unwanted intruders, today it is a great eye-catcher and a historical testimony to our city.

Large parts of the city wall have been preserved from the Middle Ages. The stone wall is up to eight meters high and about 1.3 kilometers long (once a kilometer and a half). The fortification also includes a triple wall and ditch system. The city wall was once provided with 42 Lughaus (defense towers), two round towers and three city gates. Remnants of the Lughaus as well as the round towers, the powder and hunger towers are still there. Of the three former city gates, only the stone gate connected to the hunger tower by two battlements has been preserved.

Biesdorf Palace Park

Highlight • Historical Site

The Schlosspark Biesdorf is a park based on the English model. Originally created as a closed garden of the landowner, the park was opened to all visitors from 1927.

In the park is still the castle Biesdorf, an elegant villa on the Italian model. It houses today the ZKR, the center for art and public space. In the castle you can visit the ZKR exhibitions or participate in their events. You will also find a cozy café in the rooms of the castle, where homemade cakes, soups and of course hot and cold drinks are offered.

More information about the ZKR can be found at zkr-berlin.de/de/home-de

Lemmi alias Schlumpf

Schönhausen Palace Park has two faces: that of a lively, tree-filled public park with a meandering stream and that of a secluded, quiet monastery garden. The reason for this is a wall that divides the park into different areas.

February 8, 2023, Schlosspark Biesdorf

The Biesdorf Palace and Palace Park in the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district are among the most important architectural monuments of the 19th century in Berlin and are a popular destination in the east of the city. You can visit the castle, there are always exhibitions, and there is also a nice café with a good selection of cakes.

There is always a lot going on here at the weekend. During the week it's fine. Nice little highlight on the Panketal cycle path.

Unfortunately, the castle no longer exists. A small model is on the site. The castle park has been partially restored.

Mighty city wall, very nicely preserved in parts. Can be driven very well on the laid narrow slab path within the city wall. Imposing gates and wall towers e.g. Lughaus.
