The history of the Ilvesheim fiefdom on this site goes back at least to 1165. The Hundheim family, who had been appointed to the Electorate of the Palatinate's Ilvesheim fiefdom from 1700 onwards, built the baroque palace that can be seen today in several construction phases on the remains of several previous buildings that were destroyed in the Palatinate War of Succession (1688-1697). The area, with its farm buildings, outbuildings and gardens, was the noble residence of this family until 1855. Since 1868, the palace has served as a school for the blind and severely handicapped and is owned by the state of Baden-Württemberg.
