Nice 'up and down' on a dead end road. Beautiful landscape but quite tough because of the many walls where the road descends briefly and then steeply up again. Again different from the climbs in the area. Do take enough water with you because there is nothing to get along the way. The way back is easy because you roll up most of the slopes at a good speed.

You should definitely go to the rock here. There are several holes in the rock that you can look through. Here is a link to the waypoint on Wikilocs: https://de.wikiloc.com/routen-wandern/barranco-de-negra-124857035#wp-124857071

Yes, Gran Canaria's volcanic landscape features impressive gorges and ravines. Riders frequently praise the island's diverse landscapes, the challenging yet rewarding terrain, and the constantly changing scenery that makes every ride an adventure. The mix of asphalt and dirt roads, combined with significant elevation changes, offers a unique experience.
While many routes in Gran Canaria are rated as difficult due to significant elevation changes and varied terrain, there are options that can be adapted for less experienced riders. It's recommended to start with shorter, less technical sections or consider routes that stick to resurfaced gravel paths. Always check the route's difficulty and elevation profile before heading out.
Absolutely. Gran Canaria is a paradise for experienced gravel bikers seeking a challenge. Routes like the Switchbacks with a view – Pico de las Nieves summit loop from Las Palmas offer nearly 2,900 meters of elevation gain over 100 km, leading through volcanic formations to the island's highest point. The island's 'ocean of mountains' provides endless opportunities for demanding ascents and technical descents.
Many gravel routes in Gran Canaria start from towns or popular tourist areas where parking is generally available. For example, routes often begin around Maspalomas or Las Palmas, which have various parking facilities. When planning your ride, it's advisable to check the starting point of your chosen route for specific parking information.
Gran Canaria enjoys a favorable climate year-round, but conditions can vary significantly depending on the elevation and specific location. The south is generally warmer and drier, while the north can be greener and more humid. In the mountains, temperatures can drop, and weather can change quickly. Always check the local forecast for your specific route, especially for higher elevations, and be prepared for sun, wind, and potential rain.
While many of Gran Canaria's gravel routes are challenging, families with older children or those looking for less strenuous rides can find suitable sections. Look for routes that stick to flatter, well-maintained gravel paths, particularly in coastal areas or around some of the natural parks. Always prioritize routes with minimal traffic and manageable distances and elevation for all family members.
For those without their own equipment, gravel bikes are readily available for rent across Gran Canaria, particularly in popular tourist hubs like Maspalomas. Many local cycling shops and tour operators also offer guided gravel biking tours, which can be an excellent way to explore the island's diverse terrain with expert knowledge and support.
Yes, many gravel routes, especially those passing through or near villages and towns, offer opportunities to stop for refreshments. In the more remote mountain areas, options might be scarcer, so it's always wise to carry enough water and snacks. Popular starting points or scenic viewpoints often have cafes or small eateries where you can refuel.
Yes, Gran Canaria offers numerous circular gravel routes, allowing you to start and end your ride in the same location without needing a shuttle. Examples include the Puerto Rico Marina and Beach – View of Taurito loop from Sheraton Salobre, which offers coastal views, or the challenging Old coastal road – Tirma Track loop from Casablanca, exploring the island's rugged west.
