For me, crossing the Puente de Segovia is like taking a stroll through the 16th century. I love its sober design by Juan de Herrera, with those powerful granite blocks that have withstood everything. The views I have from here of the Royal Palace and the Almudena, especially when the lights come on at dusk, are spectacular. Furthermore, the Madrid Río area surrounding it, with its water jets and gardens, makes it perfect for walking. My favorite bridge in all of Madrid!

A breathtaking forest/park for all outdoor activities. And not only that. Definitely the most beautiful part of the route.

Be careful because the recent rains have caused a new landslide next to the previous one, and the road was closed by forest rangers.

Manzanares el Real Castle, also known as Mendoza Castle: Built in 1475 by order of Diego Hurtado de Mendoza, 1st Duke of the Infantado, on the site of a former Romanesque-Mudéjar church. Its architecture is Isabelline Gothic, with a square floor plan, cylindrical towers, and an octagonal keep. It served as the palatial residence of the powerful Mendoza family, who even established a literary court there. Declared a Historic-Artistic Monument in 1949. Today it houses a Medieval Interpretation Center, with exhibits of tapestries, armor, furniture, and audiovisual presentations about life in the Middle Ages.

Yes, experienced riders will find plenty of challenging options, particularly in the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park. Routes here offer significant elevation changes and rugged paths. For a demanding ride, consider the Santillana Reservoir Bridge – Santillana Reservoir loop from Colmenar Viejo, which covers 76.6 km with over 1300 meters of elevation gain.
Absolutely. The region has numerous gentler routes perfect for beginners or family outings. River valleys and converted railway tracks (Vías Verdes) offer less strenuous paths. A good option is the Alto de Garabitas – Casa de Campo Park loop from Villaverde Bajo, a moderate 42.1 km trail through forested parklands, which is often completed in about 2 hours 24 minutes.
You can explore several beautiful natural areas. The Sierra de Guadarrama National Park offers stunning mountain views and unique granite formations in areas like La Pedriza. The Regional Park of the Middle Course of the Guadarrama River provides diverse Mediterranean forests and riverside landscapes. For urban green spaces, Casa de Campo is Madrid's largest public park with forested, hilly terrain. The 'Las Vegas de Madrid' area along the Jarama and Tajo rivers also offers tranquil gravel routes.
Many gravel routes in the Area Metropolitana De Madrid pass through or near charming villages and historical sites. For instance, routes in the Sierra de Guadarrama can lead to picturesque towns like Patones or El Escorial, home to the UNESCO World Heritage Royal Monastery. Along the Jarama and Tajo rivers, you might pass through towns like Aranjuez, another UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape with its Royal Palace. You can also visit the El Gasco Dam or the Monument to the Sacred Heart of Jesus of Cerro de los Ángeles.
The region offers several scenic viewpoints. In the Sierra de Guadarrama, you can find sweeping views from points like Puerto de Navacerrada. The Sierra Oeste offers routes leading to viewpoints over reservoirs such as the San Juan reservoir. Within the metropolitan area, you can find panoramic views from the Cerro Almodóvar Geodesic Point or enjoy the View of the confluence of the Jarama and Manzanares rivers from the Cortados de Rivas.

The Area Metropolitana De Madrid is suitable for gravel biking year-round, but the cooler months (autumn, winter, and spring) are often preferred, especially for routes in the river valleys like 'Las Vegas de Madrid,' when mountain areas might be too cold. During summer, early morning or late afternoon rides are recommended to avoid the midday heat, particularly on more exposed routes.
