We were there in mid-October, and it got quite crowded in St. Bartolomä around lunchtime. I imagine it's even busier in the summer months. But perhaps the flow of visitors is better spread out then, because the boats also travel to Salet.

The park is home to several impressive water features. The Röthbach Waterfall, near Lake Obersee, is Germany's highest waterfall, plunging 470 meters. Another notable spot is the Wimbach Gorge, a 200-meter-long gorge with numerous waterfalls cascading over moss-covered rocks. You can experience the Röthbach Waterfall on routes like the Fischunkelalm at Obersee – Obersee loop from Königssee.
The waterfalls are particularly impressive during spring and early summer when snowmelt increases their volume. Autumn also offers stunning scenery with vibrant foliage. While some trails are accessible year-round, always check conditions, especially for higher alpine routes, as winter can bring snow and ice.
Yes, there are several options suitable for families. While many routes involve some elevation, paths like those around the Enchanted Forest along the Ramsauer Ache often have gentler sections. The park's trail system includes 'yellow' paths designed for minimal incline, which can be a good starting point for families.
Dogs are generally permitted on trails in Nationalpark Berchtesgaden, but they must be kept on a leash to protect wildlife and ensure the safety of other hikers. Always check specific trail regulations before you go, as some sensitive areas or nature reserves might have restrictions.
Many waterfall routes are close to other stunning natural features. For instance, the area around Obersee, which leads to Röthbach Waterfall, is adjacent to the iconic Königssee. Absolutely. For experienced hikers, routes like the Mehrtages-Hüttentour: Steinernes Meer in den Berchtesgadener Alpen offer multi-day challenges through high alpine terrain, where you might encounter various water features. Given the varied terrain and weather, sturdy hiking boots with good grip are essential.
