Formerly the Bolton Arms. Good food and a decent selection of ales. It has a nice little beer garden at the rear.

This pretty wooden footbridge spans the Apedale Beck stream and is surrounded by stunning foliage, especially lovely in the autumn when the leaves change colour.

It’s a lovely spot for a dip at the end of the walk, away from the viewpoint which is atop the falls in the photo. Water levels were low so we were able to walk up on the right of the photo and scramble up and round the rocks to join the path at the viewpoint. On other rain heavy seasons you may need to retrace your steps.

The beacon was put here by the Carperby and Thoresby Parish Council for the late Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee (2022). They picked the right place, too, as you will see from up here all the way to Bolton Castle and the views over Wensleydale to the south are not negligible, either!
