The harbor originally originated in the context of Wittenberg's industrial boom as a harbor basin. After the industrial facilities in the harbor area were shut down, the Nedwighafen was converted into a modern sports boat harbor. Today, the Nedwighafen serves as a central meeting point for water tourists on the Elbe and is an important part of tourism in the Prignitz. It is centrally located in the city, in close proximity to the Alte Ölmühle.

The Kranhaus in Wittenberge is a historic building on the Elbe that originally served as part of the port facilities. It was built in the first half of the 20th century and served for a long time as a storage and transshipment point for goods transported across the Elbe. With the industrial development of Wittenberge, the building played an important role in the city's economy. However, after the decline of the port, the Kranhaus lost its original function and stood empty for some time. It was later converted into a restaurant, which operated until it closed a few years ago. In 2021, a Berlin entrepreneur bought the building with the plan to use it as a meeting and overnight location for project teams. Extensive renovations were carried out at the time.

Elbe riverside promenade When strolling along the Elbe riverside promenade, you can always enjoy wonderful views of the city of Magdeburg and its sights. In front of the gates of the old city of Magdeburg, on the banks of the Elbe along the city wall from today's Lukasklause to the Domfelsen, there have been settlements since the Middle Ages that were shaped by the industrialization of Magdeburg. There were extensive port and railway facilities here with tracks, a packing yard and warehouses. However, the area was so badly damaged in World War II that it was decided not to rebuild it. In the 1970s, a four-kilometer-long green promenade was built here, in which numerous sculptures, fountains and seating areas alternate with many lush seasonal and perennial plantings. Here you can find the sculpture "The Ferryman" by Eberhard Roßdeutscher, which brings Magdeburg's city history to life.
