Welcome to the living room of Hei- en Boeicop, at Fokko and Patricia's. The place where we laugh, drink beer, eat delicious food, dance, chat, listen, fall in love, forget the time, eat ice cream, tell stories and rest after a long bike ride.

In the eighties, a number of farmers came together around World Food Day. They reflected on the theme of ‘thinking globally and acting locally’ and this ultimately resulted in contacts in various parts of the world. This group, ‘De WAV’, celebrated its 40th anniversary on 9 November. In the early nineties, the government came up with a proposal to give the Alblasserwaard and Vijfheerenlanden a special designation. This was a clear point of discussion for this same group of farmers. They asked the government for the principles to be able to implement this. The Hague agreed to this and so our agricultural nature and landscape association Den Hâneker was founded. The leaders were Teunis Jacob Slob, Max van Tilburg, Frits Kool and Floor Kool. A covenant was concluded with the province of South Holland and the rural area service (DLG) for the implementation of the plan. From the start, the association Den Hâneker not only had farmers as members but also citizens, which was new by Dutch standards. And soon more members joined. Various working groups were formed that started working on a theme. And the working group care farmers has grown into its own professional foundation. At the moment there are four working groups: Agrarian nature management, Sustainable agriculture (WAV), Education and Recreation & Tourism. The working group the Vierdaagse Alblasserwaard was disbanded this year due to a lack of sufficient volunteers and the increasingly strict rules. Next year Den Hâneker will exist for 30 years and then you will hear more about how it went in the first years but it still applies: Together strong for the region!
