The "Mainzer Sand II" nature reserve was established in March 1997. Brief description: Calcareous sand area with open calcareous sand plains, dunes, pioneer sand vegetation, sandy heaths, fallow land, orchards, isolated trees, and old and dead wood; The Mainzer Sand landscape originated approximately 10,000 years ago and is therefore relatively young.
