The monastery is considered one of the oldest Christian monuments on Corfu. According to legend, in the 5th century a monk named Artemisio Paissios retreated as a hermit into this secluded forest hollow. When his parents came to take him home against his will, he dug a hole to pray in. At that moment, a huge rock broke loose, tumbled down, and buried the monk alive. Since his parents could not free him, they let him rest in his beloved place and built the monastery in his memory directly above the site of the accident. Although the monastery was first mentioned in documents as early as the 14th century (1371), most of the walls still visible today date from 1790. The monks finally left the site in 1930.

In Acharavi, there is a very good café/restaurant called Ilo Ilo where you can eat very deliciously and simply have a Frappe. The staff is very friendly and provides good service.

The hike to the waterfall is an easy tour. The gravel path is easy to walk, only the last 50m goes down a bit over stick and stone.

The waterfall can be dry during the summer months. The steps down are steep, so sturdy footwear is a must.

The waterfall was very beautiful! The pool below is also inviting for a swim, but the trash and the many broken glass on the floor kept us from doing so.
