Burgui is the starting point in the lower or southern part of the Roncal Valley, which ends in Belagua, at the foot of the Piedra de San Martín. It is a very pretty and peaceful village, with all kinds of services for staying for a few days and using it as a starting point for the various cycling excursions in the area. It is also highly recommended to reach Burgui via the road from Salvatierra de Esca, following the course of the Esca River through the Esca Gorge.

The hermitage has its origins in the conflicts between Aragonese and Navarrese shepherds, which led to deaths. Faced with this situation, the church wanted to bring peace, and so promoted the Brotherhood of the Virgin of the Rock, which was founded in 1521; originally this brotherhood admitted 20 members from Salvatierra and 10 from Burgui. [2] In 1628 another group of residents of the two towns emerged, who focused their devotion on Saint Joseph; the first brotherhood declined in the 20th century, becoming extinct in 1950, being replaced by that of Saint Joseph, which admits up to 30 members, and is governed by a prior, rotating by seniority. The ruins found on the track that connects Luesia with the Pígalo pools are known as the castle of Sibirana. The ruins of the hermitage of Santa Quiteria also remain from this deserted area. This nucleus is part of a defensive line ordered to be built in the 10th century by King Sancho Garcés I of Pamplona. The sight of the towers erected on two stone masses gives an idea of the magnitude and engineering of these structures.

On our way along the track from Luesia to the Pígalo pools, we come across the castle of Sibirana built to control the passage from Uncastillo and from Luesia through the Onsella river valley. In addition to the castle, there are remains of the hermitage of Santa Quiteria, both in the Aragonese Romanesque style and of a dozen houses at the foot of the castle on its south face.

We are in the Pígalo pools, ideal for warm summer days where we can take a dip. If we go upstream, we will find more less crowded pools, since this one is quite popular and soon fills up with people. If we want to leave the car in the car park, we must book on the Luesia town hall website as they control access. There are picnic areas to eat and a bar at the campsite.

We are in the Aragonese town of Luesia, a picturesque town where one of the oldest fortresses in Aragon is located or the Church of El Salvador, located at the top of the municipality.

Escó or Esco is located to the north of the province of Zaragoza and it was in 1960 that most of the area was expropriated (together with those of Ruesta and Tiermas) for the construction of the Yesa reservoir, with which the town began its decline to abandonment. Now it gives us impressive views of the reservoir between the old and dilapidated houses.

Impressive views that we have of the curious municipality of Berdún located on top of a hill, standing out over the Valley of the Aragón River.
