July 28, 2026, Rossijevo Sklonište Mountain Shelter

In the middle of the rock labyrinth of Rožanski kukovi, at around 1,580 meters, lies Rossijevo sklonište, a simple, unmanaged shelter. The hut, built in 1929, is named after Antun Rossi, a forester and pioneer of Velebit research. It served as a refuge for hikers and researchers in the difficult-to-access Northern Velebit. It still serves this purpose today. It is open all year round and offers basic sleeping facilities for emergencies. A short detour leads there from the Premužić Trail. With a fantastic view, it offers everything for an extended break.

There are several buildings at the summit, including an open chapel and a huge radio mast. The panoramic view is very impressive.

"The refuge was built in 1933 and completely renovated in 1989. It is named after the Trieste mountaineer and speleologist Mario Premuda, who died in 1931 in an accident on the Picco di Mezzodi in the Julian Alps. The hut also houses the climbing school named after the Trieste mountaineer Emilio Comici. The refuge is a popular destination for its cuisine, but does not offer overnight accommodations and is open year-round except in February." https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rifugio_Mario_Premuda Contact: https://www.cai-fvg.it/sentieri-e-rifugi/rifugi-e-opere-alpine/rifugi-in-fvg/001-rifugio-premuda/
