Good for relaxation and recharging your batteries. It's best to start from here to get to the lake.

A very nice detour from the Annapurna Circuit for optimal acclimatization. If you can reach the lake, the pass is no problem either. Beforehand, I had visited the Ice Lake to acclimatize. I slept like a baby at Thorong La High Camp.

Journey to Tilicho Lake & Annapurna Circuit - A Story with Phuri Sherpa I still remember the cold, silent morning when we left Tilicho Base Camp at 5:00 AM. The stars were singing above us, and only the sound of our boots crunching the frozen trails broke the silence. Slowly, Step by step, we climbed towards Tilicho Lake, one of the highest lakes in the world at 4,919 meters. As the first golden light touched the snowy peaks, we arrived at the lake - calm, frozen and magical. The reflection of the mountains danced on the turquoise water. It felt like standing on the another planet, in the heart of the Annapurna mountains. After enjoying this unforgettable moment, we carefully descended back to Base Camp for a well- deserved lunch, and later continued to Shree Kharka, tired but full of memories. This side trip is not easy - the altitude, the cold, the long hours - but the reward is something words can hardly describe.

Into the heart of the Himalayas– Annapurna Circuit & Tilicho About the Trek:

Situated at an elevation of about 3700 m, there are few guest houses purely for touristic purpose. On a clear day, you get an up close look at the famous Machhapuchhre as well as the Annapurna Range in the distance. Machhapuchhre is one of the holiest peaks in Nepal, and it’s now illegal to try to climb it. It’s never been summited and that first attempt was also the last.

Deurali to Annapurna base camp distance is approx. 8 km. Situated at an elevation of approx. 3200 m, you will gain about 950 m elevation at the ABC. Trail ascends gradually and takes 4 to 5 hours to reach Annapurna base camp. The trail goes past Machhapuchre Base Camp at an elevation of approx. 3700 m. You can see a breathtaking view of the mountain from here.

Yes, several huts offer exceptional views. For instance, 360° View Hotel, located at the top of Badal Danda, provides stunning panoramic mountain views. Additionally, Tilicho Base Camp is situated at 4,150 meters, serving as an ideal starting point for reaching Tilicho Lake.
Many huts are designed for trekkers to rest and recharge. Tilicho Base Camp offers guesthouses for relaxation. Similarly, Shree Kharka, located two hours before Tilicho Base Camp, provides guesthouses with amenities like WiFi and hot gas showers, making it a great stop to eat and sleep.
Amenities vary widely. Basic tea houses often provide simple rooms with beds, shared facilities, and communal dining halls. Some, like Shree Kharka, offer WiFi and hot gas showers. More upscale lodges provide heated rooms, en-suite bathrooms, and gourmet meals.
Absolutely. Thorong Phedi Base Camp Lodge & Restaurant is a crucial resting point before ascending the Thorong La pass. It's often recommended over Thorong High Camp due to its more extensive selection of lodges and good food. Mardi Himal High Camp is another example, serving as the last guesthouse point on the Mardi Himal route before ascents to viewpoints.
Tea houses and huts commonly serve local cuisine, with *Dal Bhat* (a traditional Nepali dish with rice, curried potatoes, and vegetables) being a staple, often with unlimited refills. Other options like Sherpa stew, noodles, and sometimes even pizza or burgers can be found. Many places, like Thorong Phedi Base Camp Lodge & Restaurant, are known for their good food.
The Himalaya offers numerous outdoor activities. You can find excellent hiking trails, including routes near Lukla, Gorakshep, and Ghorepani. There are also cycling routes around Phewa Lake and Kathmandu, and running trails in the region.
Yes, Sinuwa is a very quiet village with several guesthouses ready to welcome hikers. It's an ideal spot for a peaceful stopover, offering refreshments and great views of the mountains.
Huts at higher altitudes, such as Thorong High Camp, are often more basic. It's important to consider acclimatization. Many trekkers choose to stay at Thorong Phedi Base Camp Lodge & Restaurant instead of Thorong High Camp due to its slightly lower altitude and more extensive facilities before attempting the pass.
Visitors appreciate the essential rest and shelter provided by the huts, especially during challenging treks. The opportunity for cultural immersion, stunning mountain views, and the communal atmosphere in dining halls are also highly valued. Many enjoy the convenience of amenities like WiFi and hot showers available at some guesthouses.
Yes, many huts cater to intermediate trekkers. Locations like Low Camp, Thorong Phedi, and Deurali are often part of intermediate trekking routes, providing comfortable stops along the way.
