03/13/2026 - the so-called waterfall was just trickling for us. Unfortunately, you couldn't see much of it because the vegetation is too lush.

It's especially well-suited for the rope section on the way back!

The turnoff to this waterfall is somewhat hidden at the bottom of the hike to the reservoir. If the streambed here hasn't been mowed, you won't find the trail.

If the small reservoir above is drained, there will be a waterfall about 10m high. Now there are only stones and a deep ditch...

Isla De La Gomera features several impressive waterfalls. The Arure Waterfall is a popular choice, known for its 15-meter drop into a cave-like formation and its refreshing, shaded path. Another significant waterfall is El Cedro, located within the Garajonay National Park, which is one of the island's highest at around 150 meters and feeds agricultural valleys.
The difficulty varies. Trails like the one leading to Arure Waterfall are generally considered moderate, but can involve slippery rocks and require sure-footedness. Some routes, such as the Waterfall in Barranco de Arure or the Waterfall Trail, are more challenging, often following stream beds, requiring sturdy shoes, and sometimes involving rope assistance or climbs. El Cedro's trail, while scenic, also has sections with slippery pebbles.
While many waterfall trails on La Gomera can be adventurous, some sections or alternative paths might be more suitable for families. The area around Arure Waterfall is noted for being a good spot for splashing and picnicking, and the shaded path can be enjoyable. For easier hikes in general, you can explore the Easy hikes around Isla De La Gomera guide, which might include routes with waterfall viewpoints or less demanding sections.
The waterfalls on Isla De La Gomera, particularly those fed by continuous watercourses like Arure and El Cedro, can be visited year-round. They are especially recommended on hot days, as the shaded paths and cool water offer a refreshing experience. The island's climate generally allows for hiking throughout the year, but always check local weather conditions before heading out.
Hiking to the waterfalls often leads you through diverse and unique landscapes. You'll encounter deep barrancos (gorges), lush laurel forests, especially around El Cedro in Garajonay National Park, and areas with Canary palm trees, such as the Canary Palm Grove at Barranco de Arure. The Arure Waterfall itself plunges into a space with walls resembling petrified water drops.
Yes, the trail to El Cedro Waterfall is located within the Garajonay National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This area is renowned for its ancient laurel forest, sustained by the high humidity, offering a unique ecological experience.
Sturdy shoes with good grip are essential, especially for trails with slippery rocks or stream crossings. Some challenging routes may even require sure-footedness and potentially gloves for rope sections. Given the shaded and often humid environments, comfortable, breathable clothing is advisable. Bringing water, snacks, and sun protection for exposed sections is always a good idea.
The area around Arure Waterfall is noted as being ideal for splashing around and picnicking, offering a refreshing break. While specific wild swimming spots are not explicitly detailed, the presence of continuous watercourses and pools suggests opportunities for cooling off, especially in the more accessible areas.
Visitors frequently highlight the wild and romantic atmosphere of the trails, the refreshing coolness of the water and shaded paths, and the unique natural beauty. The adventurous routes, especially those involving stream beds and minor climbs, are often cited as making for a memorable experience. The contrast between arid cliffs and vibrant greenery also creates an oasis-like feel that is much appreciated.

While specific parking details for every trailhead are not provided, most popular hiking areas on Isla De La Gomera, especially those leading to significant natural attractions, typically have designated parking areas or roadside spots available near the starting points of the trails. It's advisable to check local maps or guidebooks for precise parking information for your chosen route.
Beyond the well-known spots, Isla De La Gomera's rugged terrain and numerous barrancos suggest there are many smaller, perhaps seasonal, waterfalls. Exploring the island's many gorges can often lead to unexpected natural finds.
