In addition to its scenic beauty, the Kaltbrunnental Valley is a great outdoor playground for families. The stream offers fun activities and children's canyoning, easy access to the water, and barbecue areas are available. A hot tip, especially in summer.

A great tour that we really enjoyed. In order not to have to walk the same route to and from Hirnichopf twice, we walked the official hiking trail shortly after the start to Hirnichopf. A small trail with steps and lots of variety. When descending from Hirnichopf again on the "official" path, I had to say: "If I had had to go up here..." (a climb from here would definitely have made my pulse race). So it's better to use the official hiking trail shortly after the start. A short stop at the Metingerbeg restaurant also refreshed us. Otherwise the route was great and we liked the view! Thank you

The region offers several excellent viewpoints. Vogelberg Summit is a popular choice, offering beautiful views of Basel and the Alps from its 1204-meter peak. Another highly regarded spot is Hohe Winde Summit, known for its sensational panoramic views stretching across the Alps, the Vosges mountains, and the Black Forest. The Hirnichopf Summit also provides beautiful prospects, though the ascent can be challenging.
Büsserach is rich in history. You can explore the ruins of Schloss Thierstein (also known as Neu-Thierstein), a significant landmark perched on a rocky spur between Büsserach and Erschwil. Another notable site is the Zehntenscheune (Tithes Barn), constructed around 1350, which served as a grain magazine and even as arrest cells. Nearby, the Alte Mühle (Old Mill) also dates back to the same period and held the privilege of a "Bannmühle".
Yes, the Sankt Anna Kapelle (St. Anna Chapel) is a beautiful Baroque-style chapel built in 1684. It features a richly decorated front and a statue of Saint Anna. During its last renovation, a previously hidden painted wooden ceiling was uncovered, making it a place of historical and artistic interest.
Büsserach and its surroundings are well-suited for hikers, offering a variety of trails from easy to challenging. You can find pleasant routes through the Kaltbrunnental Gorge, which provides natural shade in summer. For more challenging ascents with rewarding views, consider trails leading to Hirnichopf Summit or Hohe Winde Summit. Many routes offer panoramic views of the Lüsseltal and beyond. For more detailed hiking options, explore the Hiking around Büsserach guide.
Absolutely! The Kaltbrunnental Gorge is an excellent spot for families, offering pleasant hiking trails and ample shade. It's also noted as a great outdoor playground for children, with opportunities for "children's canyoning" in the stream and designated grilling spots. The Wasserfallen Mountain Station is another family-friendly starting point for various outdoor activities, including a forest rope park.
The region boasts diverse natural landscapes. You can explore several summits like Hohe Winde, Hirnichopf, and Vogelberg, all offering stunning views. The Kaltbrunnental Gorge is a beautiful recreation area where a stream winds through impressive rock walls. Additionally, the Riedgraben Nature Reserve is dedicated to preserving an intact piece of nature, with maintained hedges, ponds, and nesting boxes for birds.

For specific routes and tours, check out the Cycling around Büsserach guide and the Gravel biking around Büsserach guide. The Wasserfallen Mountain Station also serves as a starting point for snowshoeing and offers a forest ropes course.
Visitors frequently praise the stunning panoramic views from the various summits, with many noting the clear visibility of the Alps, Vosges, and Black Forest on good days. The Kaltbrunnental Gorge is appreciated for its pleasant, shaded hiking trails and its appeal as a recreational area. The diverse natural landscapes, offering both challenging ascents and family-friendly options, are also highly valued by the komoot community.
Yes, the Kreuzweg (Way of the Cross) is a popular spot for hikers. It leads to an observation platform on the "Chrützlifels," from where visitors can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the Lüsseltal, with Büsserach lying directly below and the ruins of Thierstein castle appearing close by.
Yes, the Riedgraben Nature Reserve is located in the area. This approximately 4.5-hectare reserve is managed by the local Nature and Bird Protection Association, which actively works to preserve an intact piece of nature. They maintain hedges, desilt ponds, monitor plant and animal development, and care for nesting boxes for various birds.
The region is enjoyable throughout much of the year. The Kaltbrunnental Gorge is particularly appealing in summer due to the ample shade provided by trees, making it a pleasant escape from the heat. For hiking and enjoying panoramic views, spring and autumn often offer comfortable temperatures and clear skies. Winter activities like snowshoeing are also possible, especially around the Wasserfallen Mountain Station.
