Very beautiful waterfall, the gorge was worth it for that reason alone...about an hour from the entrance to the Exo Mouliana car park and maybe about half an hour from the beach... The gorge itself...it felt like you went through the jungle once, a bit like the Plivicher lakes over wooden walkways, a bit of climbing and rocks, 1 great waterfall and 1 open gorge with lots of rock walls and at the end a small, beautiful, clear bay and the smell of herbs in between....

The climb to Crete's highest mountain is certainly one of the highlights of a holiday on the island. The shortest and best route starts at the Mygero Refuge (an investment ruin, a shame). At the beginning the path is clearly visible (paved), later it becomes more confusing. You should plan on 5 - 6 hours for the journey there and back, there is an altitude difference of around 850 meters. Sufficient water and weatherproof clothing are a given. But the mountain is also a real eye-catcher from a distance. Before you start the climb, get weather information. A dream route with sun and little wind.

The main path leads past on the left. A narrow side path goes directly under the bridge.

What are some challenging hiking opportunities among Greece's natural monuments?

For experienced hikers, the Samaria Gorge offers a challenging and dramatic experience, particularly through its narrowest sections like the Iron Gates. The ascent to Psiloritis (Timios Stavros) Summit is also considered challenging. The Vikos Gorge in the Pindus Mountains is another one of the world's deepest canyons, providing demanding hiking trails.

Are there any natural monuments that are particularly good for wildlife spotting?

Mount Olympus is a prime location for wildlife, boasting over 1700 plant species, some rare and endemic, along with diverse wildlife including wolves, jackals, and over 100 bird species. The Samaria Gorge is also home to soaring birds of prey and a dazzling array of wildflowers, especially in spring. The Cave of the Lakes near Kalavryta is known for its bat colony.

What should I know about accessibility and permits for visiting natural monuments like gorges?
