The Sé Cathedral of Silves is an impressive Gothic building in the historic center of Silves, Algarve. It was once a mosque during the Moorish period, but was converted into a cathedral after the Reconquest. It features thick, reddish brick walls and a simple yet powerful appearance. Inside, you'll find beautiful medieval details, and it's an important symbol of the Christian Reconquest of the region.

Great little walk of 4 miles. A short sharp climb to start with but well worth it for the views! The last half mile or so, along a lavada at the back of some houses, isn’t particularly attractive but the rest of the walk is great!

The Silves City Gate (Porta da Cidade) is one of the old gateways to the walled medieval city. It was part of the original city defenses and is located near the historic center and the castle. Although only a portion of the gate remains, it offers a good overview of the former city walls and Silves' strategic location as the former Moorish capital of the Algarve. It's an atmospheric place to experience the city's rich history.
