The Probstei Church is the largest church in Beckum and dates back to the 13th century in its current form. The first small chapel that stood on the site of the Stephanus Church dates back to around 785. It houses the Prudentia Shrine. This is an important sacred treasure for the city. It is a golden reliquary from the 1230s. This reliquary is also called the baker's box in Beckum. The shrine is the most valuable of its kind in all of Westphalia. The historic Klais organ with 60 registers is also of great importance. As is the twelve-part chime in the tower, which is supported by two clock bells in a tower dormer and a carillon. https://www.dein-beckum.de/sehenswuerdigkeiten/kirchen/st-stephanus-kirche

The building historically formed a functional urban unit with the neighboring Old Town Hall. There is still an internal connecting door to today's city museum. Knowledge about the history of the house goes back to the 14th century.
