Below the cliffs of Cap Fréhel, near Port au Suet, lies a small, unspoiled and beautiful stretch of coastline that transforms into an impressive beach at low tide. When the sea recedes, the Atlantic precursor of the Breton coast reveals wide sandy and rocky areas. Between the granite and sandstone formations shaped by the water, a tranquil bay is created, framed by the high cliffs of the Cap.

The menhir of La Latte, also called „Doigt de Gargantua“ (Gargantua's finger), is located near the Château de la Roche Goyon (Fort La Latte). The granite stone, about 2.60 meters high, dates from prehistoric times. In the Middle Ages or later, it was probably provided with a cross and thus interpreted in a Christian way. Breton legends surround the menhir, according to which the giant Gargantua is said to have lost a finger here. Today, the stone at the access to the fort recalls the long settlement history of the region.

I would like to pass on a thought from the well-known French writer Victor-Marie Vicomte HUGO (1802–1885, whose probably best-known novel „The Hunchback of Notre Dame“ will be familiar to many at least in the film version), who expressed himself on hiking as follows: „Nothing, in my opinion, is as charming as this way of traveling: namely, on foot! You belong entirely to yourself, you are free, you are happy… completely connected with the tree under which you seek shelter, completely connected with the church in which you collect yourself. You take leave, you stop, you return. Nothing hinders us, nothing holds us back, you wander and dream as you go.“

The Port-au-Suet Arch is an impressive natural rock formation created by Atlantic erosion over millennia. The arch is located along the GR34, the famous coastal hiking trail that circumnavigates the entire Breton coast.
