This is station 138 Carlshöhe of the Royal Saxon Triangulation. "The Royal Saxon Triangulation (here with its historical proper name) is a state survey carried out between 1862 and 1890 in the territory of the Kingdom of Saxony, with the simultaneous creation of a trigonometric network. The aim was to scientifically and geodetically accurately capture the state territory and to create the basis for the production of accurate map works by establishing permanently marked fixed points. The Großenhainer Grundlinie was determined as the reference baseline." - https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C3%B6niglich-S%C3%A4chsische_Triangulirung From the station, the neighboring stations Hospitalberg, Ebersbrunn, Marienhöhe, Wilhelmshöhe, Kuhberg and Sorge were sighted. These sightlines are no longer present from the pillar. But if you step out of the forest, you still get a magnificent view over the Vogtland.

The water tower was built in 1926 in just five and a half months in the style of functionalism. The height is 28 m. Since the reconstruction in 1997/98 it has shone again in its old splendor. The capacity of the four stainless steel tanks inside the tower is 500 m3 of water. In the permanent exhibition you can learn interesting things about the history of the water tower. From the viewing platform, visitors have a wonderful view of Reichenbach and the surrounding area. The station is a sad sight for travelers - not exactly inviting... The station hall is open (so that the elevator can be used), but without any other function (toilet, information... none) and the walls are smeared.
