The first sources attest to a St. Andrew's Church in Neckarhausen as early as the 16th century. The still-standing Baroque parish church dates back to 1783. A larger worship space was planned in the mid-20th century. Mannheim's city planning director, Richard Jörg, was selected as the architect for this project. The new church was built on a plot of land between Hauptstrasse and Fichtenstrasse, directly adjacent to the Baroque building. It was consecrated on September 4, 1960, and has since then borne the historical patronage of St. Andrew. The Baroque church (since renamed St. Michael), deconsecrated in the same year, was initially converted into a community center until it was closed in 1990 due to the danger of collapse. After renovation, the building has served as a space for events and celebrations since 2004. The modern St. Andrew's Church was renovated for its 50th consecration anniversary, which ended in 2010. The four-meter-high column combines Roman and Germanic symbols. The figures depict the battle between Jupiter and a giant, with the texture and equestrian figure appearing to follow a Celtic tradition. The column has been destroyed, buried, and rebuilt several times. The 1973 find consists of yellowish Keuper sandstone from the Heilbronn area – including the red Bunter sandstone components that had already been "reconstructed" in ancient times.¹ Using modern digitization techniques from KIT, the remaining secrets surrounding the column are to be revealed. St. Michael's is the former Roman Catholic parish church of Neckarhausen. It was built between 1781 and 1783 and deconsecrated in 1960 after the new parish church was completed next door. Today, the church serves as an event space for the parish. Wikipedia: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alte_katholische_Pfarrkirche_St._Michael_(Neckarhausen)
