The night watchman statue in Zwönitz commemorates a centuries-old tradition of the Ore Mountain mining town. It is located in the historic city center, on Lange Gasse. Evidence of the night watchman tradition in Zwönitz dates back to 1672. After a devastating city fire in 1687, the duties of the night watchman were strictly regulated. He had to make his rounds at night from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. and call out the time at 19 different locations. The office of the night watchman was abolished in 1897. Zwönitz appointed a new night watchman on October 18, 1997, to maintain the tradition as a tourist attraction.

Zwäntzer „Lieblingsplatzl“ in new attire since November 2024. "It's a magnificent view over our hometown from the old railway track across the valley towards the tower of the Holy Trinity Church and on to Ziegenberg, when it's not raining. A place to pause and be grateful that we can live so idyllically. Here you can enjoy the vastness and feel a sense of belonging." In May 2024, two wave benches were purchased for this beautiful "Platzl" and a photo frame was added later. https://zwoenitzer-anzeiger.de/2024/11/12/zwaentzer-lieblingsplatzl-in-neuem-gewand/
