The village of Lopau was abandoned in 1983, and the last residents left the village. After the Second World War, about 200 people lived in Lopau. At the beginning of the 1980s, the small village fell within the security area of the Bundeswehr training grounds, and all residents were resettled. Even today, some houses look as if they are still inhabited. https://www.lueneburger-heide.de/service/sehenswuerdigkeiten/0100238830/lopau-ein-geisterdorf.html
