Continuation of the MU Tour #5 Munich Northeast: Old Oberföhring Brickworks We cross Oberföhringer Straße and head north. At the Salzbrücke bridge, we turn right toward the east. After a few meters, a dirt road branches off to the north. From here, we reach the Old Oberföhring Brickworks. We stop briefly at drying shed no. 8 of the Joseph Haid Brickworks. Since 2008, the Association for Neighborhood Culture in Northeast Munich (NordOstKultur) has been committed to preserving the buildings of the Joseph Haid (Deck) Brickworks in Oberföhring. Thanks to his initiative, the engine house, located in the middle of a residential complex, was preserved. This can be visited as part of a guided tour. The Joseph Haid Brickworks, along with the listed August Haid Brickworks at An der Salzbrücke 39, is one of the last remaining brickworks in Munich. Oberföhring lies on a 16-kilometer-long clay tongue that stretches between Ramersdorf in the south and Ismaning in the north. Clay, a raw material for firing bricks, was mined from the Renaissance period until the mid-20th century. Important buildings, such as the Munich Cathedral of Our Lady (Frauenkirche) and the city walls, were built with these clay bricks. Bicycle Tip: RadlRing Nord The path "An der Salzbrücke" (Salz Bridge) is part of the RadlRing (North Cycle Ring). You can cycle around the city for approximately 130 kilometers. The signposted cycle path was created in 2005 as part of the Federal Garden Show.
